Beausoleil to King Bay and Wreck Island, Ontario

As we were leaving Beausoleil Island, we knew we wanted to top off fuel, water, and get pumped out. Picnic Island Gas Dock, a place we read about didn't have potable water or a pump out, so after we tied up there and chatted with them since they weren't answering their phone, they told us to head to South Bay Cove Marina in Honey Harbor.

When we go to or find marinas in the areas we are in, it always blows my mind to see how they're are so nestled in a bay, are able to fit so many big boats, and have way more slips than I'd think possible. South Bay Cove Marina was like this, and it made finding the tucked away fuel dock a little bit of a boat show.

Turns out the "everyone off the boat for fueling" thing is a Canadian thing, so I showed the guys who were pumping out, adding the water, and fueling up where the gages are and we hopped off the boat.

Roo spotted another snake sunning itself on a rock and Moose ran up to it, bent over it to examine it, and then he was petting it before I realized what was going on. The snake was shedding and didn't seem to mind Moose, but we told him to leave it alone either way and wash his hands.

We walked up to the shop to see what we could buy. We wound up chatting with the people there and getting some ice cream treats.

Declan in the South Bay Cove Marina shop used to play with Newhook from the '22 Avs team. He gave us a bunch of ideas for Georgian Bay and North Channel and told us to email him for a complete list. Turns out a lot of his recommendations were already on our list. We set off for and anchored in King Bay for the night.

Each of our stops for the next few days are very close together. We don't have much distance to cover before planning to be in Party Sound on the night of July 3. We were anchored off Wreck Island a little after 10 am. We hung out for a bit, played Skip-Bo, worked out.

There was a clearing in the rain, so we went around the island on the Chicken. Bear calmly said, "There's a giant spider on Moose." When I turned around and saw it was the size of a quarter, I jumped back to Ben's seat, as Bear did the same. Roo was trying to get out of the way as Ben jumped forward to fling it off of Moose, but it landed on Roo. I started screaming. Ben knocked it off her, into the bottom of the Chicken, and then stomped on it. Phew.

Just after Moose spotted the Cartermaran at the end of our loop, the motor on the Chicken shut off. I asked Ben if he bought the oars in Vermont when we were there, like he planned to, and he said they didn't have any. So, unless Ben could get the motor started again, we were stuck about a quarter of a mile away from our boat with no one else in sight and no way to move our boat unless someone wanted to swim and pull the bow line along with them. Ben thought there was a kink in the fuel line and messed around with that for a little bit and it started up again. Thankfully.

We made and ate linner and I noticed we just passed by Hole-in-the-Wall on our way to this anchorage. This was recommended by Declan and was a highlighted attraction on Google Maps. I looked it up and we decided that we were close enough to take the Chicken out there. Debated about going to see it tonight or tomorrow before we leave, but weather told us to go this evening or not at all. I was hopeful that Ben's fix worked, we wouldn't need oars for backup, and would survive an uneventful trip there and back.

When we got back, Moose was fishing again. He had an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly situation going on. He was using the mayflies that were on our boat to catch 3-4" fish, then would stash those in a bucket of water to turn around and use as bait.

After a short time, he was calling for Ben to help him reel in his line. He and the girls were yelling about how big the fish was. Once Ben reeled it closer, we could see it was huge, compared to what he had been catching. Moose caught his biggest fish EVER- a small mouth bass. I'd say it was 16" or so. Everyone was so excited for him.
