If you're wondering if our kids were as excited for this leg of our journey as we were, the answer is yes. Once we arrived in Florida, Roo said, "Can we just see the boat already? I wanna kiss it!"
People who were following along last summer would ask us, "When are you getting back on the boat?"
"Memorial Day, after Bear and I do the Bolder Boulder," was our answer. Counting down since August, May 30th was a long time coming.
We had been trying to pack all of our clothes, equipment, and entertainment necessities since things started arriving at our house in March. Our front room started to look like it did last year, but we didn't have nearly as much stuff to bring this time, and didn't even need to rent a trailer. It all fit in the bed of our Ram 3500, which was great. The flip side to not having a trailer (or slide-in camper) is that all of our stuff was exposed and not locked up, so that forced us to drive all the way to Florida ~1,937 miles, straight through and stopping only for fuel, for a total of about 29 hours. Always an adventure with the Carters...
So, here we are at the boat dock. We made it and are loading all the things we brought onto the Cartermaran. We have to provision, get COVID tests, and get Dixie (our dog) to the vet for her final travel approval, but all of that is on hold until Ben gets the projects done. In the meantime, I'm supervising the kids, doing laundry, and hoping to get some things unpacked.
The best news is that we are close to embarking, so that is helping us get through the not as fun parts.
