Rum Cay

Crossed to Rum Cay, with plans to bail and go straight to Conception Island or the northwestern part of Long Island if the waves were bad. They were tolerable, so we made it all the way.

Anchored in a clear patch of sand. Ben ran wires for the green running light to the front of the boat with Moose's help. This anchorage had a ton of swells, so that made this task even more impressive.

Once they dropped the tender, we had to hop right in, and we went to the beach. There were hoof prints in the sand from the wild cows that live on this part of the island, but we didn’t ever see the cows. The girls and I walked the beach, looking for shells and sea glass. Neither of them brought their shell bags because we hopped into the tender in a hurry, so it was take what you can hold and decide if you REALLY want it all. We took a few photos of finds we liked but chose to part ways with. I found my first 2 pieces of sea glass ever and it made my day.

Moose swam with his mask, walked the beach to catch up to us, and ended by Hatcheting... building a little tipi out of long logs he found laying on the island.

Bear and Ben took the tender around the corner to see if the swell was any better on that side, but it wasn't. We went back to the Cartermaran where it took 4 of us (normally it takes 2) to quickly get the tender out of the water.

We watched the sun go down and hung out in the cockpit for a while after. At one point I looked up and said, "Oh my gosh!" a few times. I was shocked to see the Strawberry Moon (named after the current strawberry season at this time of year, not that it looks like a strawberry) peeking out behind the island in front of us. It was yellow-pink and HUGE! I tried to get some good pictures of it, but once it got dark, it got harder to capture.

Looking at the wind, it seems like the direction will change at 11 pm, so we decided we can handle it until then. Tomorrow's forecast looks like 2.5 footers 6 seconds apart, quartering. Initially thought we would go to Conception Island from here. If it turns out being tolerable, we are gonna try San Salvador. If not, we can turn back and head to Conception Island.
