Paducah to Green Turtle Bay Marina in Grand Rivers, KY

The Ohio River met the Cumberland River on today's journey. It was very noticeable where the confluence of these rivers was, due to the dirty water of the Ohio and the cleaner water of the Cumberland.

We had to wait just outside of the Barkley Lock & Dam. There was a tow with barges (3x5) coming through and resetting their load once they were through. The lockmaster estimated a half hour or so and then and additional 30 minutes for retying the tow.

Moose was passing time by fishing. Pop was out front watching him. My mom, Ben, and I were sitting in the cockpit. Moose and I heard and a man voice. I looked up thinking it was him and Pop chatting. It wasn't. There was a boat of people fishing coming up from behind us. They said, "Your dog fell in." I asked them to repeat because I didn't hear what they said until my dad repeated it, "The dog is in the water." We all knew Hattie would fall in at some point because we noticed she liked going to the swim steps to drink the water, but didn't know when she would actually fall in. Boy, are we glad someone saw her because she didn't even make a splash!

Ben got to the stern and I watched her paddling with her head above water (she knew exactly what to do and where to go!) as he grabbed the handle on her life vest and pulled her up the swim steps. We tied her to the railing at the bow with her leash to make her dry off. Now the question is, did she like it enough to do it again or did it scare her and she learned her lesson?

Just on the other side of the lock, we docked at Green Turtle Bay Marina. They had us tie up in a slip, not a t-head for the first time in a while! Ben didn't think we would fit, but we had a few feet on each side.

We broke into groups to walk around and explore. There were lots of turtles in the water. Ben pulled out his phone and told Roo he had something to play for them. He started the TMNT song and they popped their heads out of the water to listen. Continuing on our walk, we made it to the pool. The kids heard the marina had a pool and were in swim suits before we were in the lock!

While we were at the pool, we found out the housing is for owners that can't stay year-round. They HAVE to be able to rent out part of the year. We didn't find out how long. Cute little vacation community.

After dinner, everyone enjoyed a marina shower. On our walk back, I noticed fireflies! I got so excited for the kids to see them- they had never seen them before and I think they're the coolest things!

Cumberland City to Ashland City, TN

Cheatham Lock and Dam was our first and only lock of the day. We waited for more than an hour for them to complete routine daily maintenance...
