We stopped at Ferry Dock Marina in Burlington, VT to fill up on fuel, get pumped out, and docked for the day/night. It was the first time we were not assigned a T dock with our wide catamaran. We had 2 self-proclaimed rookie dock hands who were likely working their summer college job. Ben had to back in and the wind made it hard- not in our favor, kept pushing away from dock where we were tying. I had the idea of tossing the stern line to them at the tip of the finger dock and having them walk us back. It worked well. (In the 4th summed, I'm starting to feel more confident in my boating skills!)
Ben took a bike to the UPS store to pick up Amazon locker packages we had shipped there after we left Connecticut. He stopped at Target and West Marine while the kids and I ran a load of laundry. "The whole thing is filling with water, Bubs!" Roo- watching laundry. Note: Our washer at home is similar in style, but this was just so much more fascinating to watch for some reason.
When Ben got back, we ate all of the leftover pizza from dinner and took the bikes along a trail route I saw on an Instagram reel in May, the Lake Champlain Causeway. To get there, we took a bike path right outside of our marina, coincidentally. This bike path, once a railway, is now a trail for people to bike, walk, run. There were a variety of surfaces- cement/gravel/dirt along the way. It started getting cloudy, windy, and eventually started raining on us as we rode between the coverage of the large trees. Good thing we ALL had raincoats this time. We kept going and went 7.5 miles before we saw lightning strike ahead of us on the causeway. We snapped a few pictures and we turned around. (Later I read that someone got to experience totality on this path. What an experience.)
I was sad not to get to the bike ferry on the causeway, but it was so windy, I started getting worried about the kids riding off the path and into the water. It seemed like everything that happened weather-wise on the way out, stopped in the order it started as we got closer to the marina.
We saw a maple ice cream hut close to the marina when we were outbound and by the time we got back, it was sunny and dry again. Made me wonder if it even rained here. (It did.) My Friday night was spent in the marina doing FREE laundry. They had great machines, so I did all the loads, and even walked some loads back to the boat in more rain! (Again, too cloudy for the northern lights.)
