We got checked in at the Canadian Border. All 5 of us and our passports were required to go in and chat with the border patrol agents. This was different than in the Bahamas where Ben would take all of the passports and the kids and I stay on the boat and wait for him to come back.
Canada's Chambly Canal is so pretty!! We did our 1st Canadian lock. Their lines are SUPER clean. They don't leave them hanging in the muck, but we used our gloves anyway. They make it easier to grip.
The locking and mooring pass we bought off the Russells is non-transferable, so we had to buy new one. $940 to just be able to do the Chambly, Rideau, and Trent-Severn. Wondering if we will still pay by the foot at each lock. (We don't, thankfully.)
Locks run 9-4:30 here. At our first lock, they let the rest of the bridge and locks people down the canal know that we are en route and we don't have to hail them each time! Kinda cool.
We are, like, some kind of oddity on this canal because people keep stopping and watching us along the bike path. They were lining the gates at the lock to watch, too. Our boat is so wide, and this canal is pretty narrow, so maybe that's why. It is making me so nervous, but Ben is doing great, as per usual.
We docked in front of lock 8 for the night, just after 4:30 when they close. The lockmaster came out to help us tie up to their dock and told us they open again at 9/9:15. We told him we'd be ready. Ben relocated the grill and made hot dogs. The kids and I played Skip-Bo.
Richelieu, Ontario. Rish-uh-loo is how you pronounce where we are.
